"Hello."
"That's it? Just hello?"
"Hello my name is Cindy?"
"Your name isn't Cindy."
"I know, but it feels weird saying my real name."
"Why?"
"How do you know my name isn't Cindy?"
"Your name tag says Michelle."
"Oh God, I'm an idiot."
"No your not, your just nervous."
"You aren't nervous."
"Oh I'm nervous all right."
He smiled, and I was his. Maybe Laine wasn't so wrong about this speed dating after all. Well, I did have to sit through a lot of nervous, sweaty, fat, ugly or just odd men before meeting Taylor. But, I liked to think it was worth it.
The final bell rang signaling the event was over. I gave taylor my number and then ran over to Laine who was sitting in the corner of the lobby. Quite tossed, might I add.
"Laine." I said in my stern mom voice that she absolutely hated.
"God, you sound like your mom." She said. Laine was my best friend, but she spent most of our teen years at my house and seemed more like a sister to me.
"Don't say that." I laughed and sat down next to her.
"God. I didn't meet anyone." She said.
"Laine, you didn't come here to meet anyone. You're married, remember?"
"Oh yeah. That must be why no one came to talk to me." She said, breaking into laugher.
"You were suposed to be watching me with the guys. Tell me which one you liked... remember?"
"They had specials on martini's. CHOCOLATE TINI'S!" She said. As if the fact that they were chocolate was suposed to make me feel better. I just laughed.
"Well, shall we get out of here? It's only 3:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday. I don't feel like hanging out in a hotel lobby. Besides fat-toupee-guy is eyeing me." I said, pointing to a particularly sweaty suitor. She waived at him and he started walking over.
"Oh shit!" She said, and we took off running.
When we got to my car we both couldn't stop laughing. Just then my phone rang.
"Cindy?"
"Who is Cindy?" I asked.
"Michelle." He said.
"Oh, Taylor. Hi. I forgot my secret identity already. I'm a horrible spy." I said, and Laine gave me a weird look.
"My friends are giving me shit about this whole singles meet and great thingy. They think I'm making you up. Can you come with me to a party tonight to give me back some credibility?" He asked.
I laughed. "Sure. What time?"
"Let's see...want to meet me at 9:00 at the Coffe Hut on Raymont."
"You got it." I said.
"You can bring friends if you like. You know, incase I'm a serial murder or something."
"Okay. It's a date." I told him.

"Well?" Laine asked.
"We are going to a party." I told her.
"We?" She asked.
"Robert doesn't get back from his business trip until Monday. Live a little." I told her. Robert was her husband. He was a young executive for a financial firm and was forever away on business.
